The Columbia College Student Council’s Academic Awards Committee presented the 2013 Mark Van Doren Award to Nicholas Dames, the Theodore Kahan Professor of Humanities and chair of the Department of English and Comparative Literature, and the Lionel Trilling Award to Boris Gasparov, the Boris Bakhmeteff Professor of Russian and East European Studies. Alan Timberlake, professor of Slavic languages and director of the Institute of East Central Europe, accepted on Gasparov’s behalf. Here, former Columbia College Dean E. Austin E.
