Joel I. Klein CC ’67 was presented the 2013 Alexander Hamilton Medal on November 14 at the Alexander Hamilton Award Dinner, an annual black-tie event in Low Rotunda.
Dean of Columbia College and Vice President for Undergraduate Education James J. Valentini today announced a new undergraduate global opportunity, the Presidential Global Fellowship, which will provide support for 15 rising sophomores in Columbia College, The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, and Columbia School of General Studies to study abroad during the summer of 2014.

Students in the Class of 2017 committed themselves to a new honor code at the Columbia College Academic Assembly on August 27, pledging to uphold a high level of academic integrity, to respect others’ intellectual property and to be honest in their academic work. The new honor code comes after long standing conversations between students, faculty and administrators regardingthe importance of academic integrity on campus.
Columbia College and Columbia Engineering welcomed students in the Class of 2017 and their families at a Convocation ceremony on South Field on August 26. Columbia University President Lee C. Bollinger, Columbia College Dean James J. Valentini and Mary C. Boyce, dean of The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, addressed students, along with Interim Dean of Student Affairs Terry Martinez, New Students Orientation Program Coordinator Emma Kim Morimoto Chaves CC’14 and Hitoshi Tanaka EN ’63, MS’65, EngScD’76, president of the Columbia Engineering Alumni Association.
Almost 4,000 College alumni and their guests returned to campus and to venues throughout New York City for Alumni Reunion Weekend and Dean’s Day 2013 from May 30–June 2. Alumni who graduated in years ending in 3 and 8 gathered on campus this year, and all alumni and parents were invited to Dean’s Day for lectures and Mini-Core Courses that represent the Columbia College experience.

Columbia College initiated 95 seniors into Phi Beta Kappa on Tuesday, May 21, 2013.
The 2013 Senior Fund raised nearly $26,000, the most of any senior class in Columbia College history. More than 750 students contributed to the campaign.
