Five students from the Class of 2015 have been accepted into the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship program. Established by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the MMUF program provides faculty mentorship and research opportunities  for undergraduates who plan to pursue careers in academia.

Nicholas Dames, Theodore Kahan Professor of Humanities and chair of the Department of English and Comparative Literature, will receive the 2013 Mark Van Doren Award for excellence in teaching, and Boris Gasparov, Boris Bakhmeteff Professor of Russian and East European Studies, will receive the 2013 Lionel Trilling Book Award for his book, Beyond Pure Reason: Ferdinand de Saussure's Philosophy of Language and Its Early Romantic Antecedents, at an awards ceremony in Low Library on May 8. The honorees are selected annually by a student committee to honor faculty members for their contributions in the classroom and in print.

Alumni came back to campus for the Center for Career Education's annual Spring Career Fair on March 8 to recruit for their companies and give students career and professional advice. Nearly 1,400 people attended the career fair, including students and alumni from Columbia College and 12 other undergraduate and graduate schools.

The Office of Global Programs has partnered with Bogazici University to offer Columbia students a new summer program focused on the history, architecture and urban development of Istanbul. Students in the program will explore Istanbul’s rich topography, history, cultures and religions through research, fieldwork, coursework and excursions.

The Center for Career Education is offering a new Columbia Experience Overseas (CEO) program this summer in Mumbai, India. The program, made possible with seed funding from Citigroup, will offer internships in fields including law, publishing, non-for-profit, banking and consulting.

Ten faculty members will be honored next week with Lenfest Distinguished Columbia Faculty Awards for their outstanding scholarship, teaching and service. The awards, which were established in 2005 with a $12 million gift from University Trustee Gerry Lenfest, carry a $25,000 stipend for each of three years.

Donors of Columbia College named scholarships met their recipients at the annual Dean's Scholarship Reception on February 7. Each year, nearly 1,200 Columbia College students receive named scholarships. Students are matched with scholarships based on their intellectual pursuits, extracurricular achievements, hometowns and plans for the future, among other factors.
