Ashleigh’s research will focus on the intersections between race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, and socioeconomic status in the areas of social inequality, education, criminal justice, and public policy. More specifically, Ashleigh is interested in examining processes of criminalization in American primary and secondary schools that have resulted in the disproportionate disciplining, policing, and race-based tracking of students of color. Ashleigh also hopes to examine perceptions of criminality with a focus on girls and women of color who have been criminalized in the commercial sex industry.
