Description:
As a member of Dr. Brent Stockwell's lab, I am currently working on elucidating resistance mechanisms to ferroptosis. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of regulated, non-apoptotic cell death. Our work has significant therapeutic implications for patients with diseases ranging from cancer to neurodegenerative diseases. In the context of cancer, understanding resistance mechanisms to ferroptosis allows us to identify cell populations that could be particularly sensitive to and be killed by ferroptosis. With neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington's, inducing resistance pathways to ferroptosis could lengthen the lifetime of neurons and slow the progression of the disease.
