Role and Responsibilities

As Director of Undergraduate Studies for your department or program, your role is to support the experience of undergraduate students in the courses and programs of study offered by your department, institute, or center. This support encompasses a range of responsibilities:

  • Coordinating your department’s undergraduate curriculum;
  • Providing academic advising to current and prospective majors or minors, which can include questions about course selection, study abroad, and post-graduate plans;
  • Serving as liaison for your department to the undergraduate schools, and facilitating the flow of information between your department and the undergraduate schools;
  • Planning and participating in events and opportunities that connect undergraduate students with faculty in your department, institute, or center;
  • Providing information and feedback to the faculty Committee on Honors, Awards and Prizes concerning students who are eligible for special honors, awards, and prizes, such as Valedictorian and Salutatorian, Departmental Honors, Phi Beta Kappa, and certain departmental awards that are sponsored by the undergraduate schools;
  • Participating in important College events such as the Academic Resources Fair, the Academic Awards and Prizes Ceremony and Reception, and Class Day.
