My primary areas of interest include American Civil Religion, American intellectual history, and the formation of Black poetics as seen through Blues, Jazz and Hip-Hop cultures. I'm especially drawn to the relationships between capitalism, religion and political regimes, specifically how these superstructures lend themselves to American conceptualizations of power. In order to understand the impact of these conceptualizations of power on everyday life, I'm hoping to investigate the cultural products -- music, literature, visual art, etc. -- of 20th and 21st-century America.
