At the beginning of each semester, the Center for the Core Curriculum accepts petitions from students who would like to make changes to their Core registration and are unable to do so in SSOL. The Core petition period always takes place during the first three days of the semester.

Core Petitions Guidelines
- Submitting a petition does not guarantee that you will be registered for a section or that your section will be changed. Petitions are fulfilled on a first-come first-served basis until sections are full. Sections cannot be over-enrolled.
- Requests for specific instructors and sections cannot be accommodated.
- Petitions for Art Humanities and Music Humanities are available to seniors and juniors only. First-years and sophomores looking to register for either of these courses should look for sections with openings in Vergil/SSOL.
- You must only attend the section for which you are currently registered according to SSOL.
- Please continue to check SSOL daily for changes to your schedule.
- You may not petition for the same course once your request has been fulfilled.
- You may not switch sections within the same time slot.
- The Core office cannot register you for a class that would conflict with a class for which you are already registered.
- The Core office will endeavor to process your petition as quickly as possible.
- Once your petition has been processed, you will receive an email notification. If your petition has been fulfilled, please allow up to 24 hours for your new section to appear on your schedule and to be added to your new section’s CourseWorks page.
- Once action has been taken on your petition, we will be unable to make any further changes on your behalf. You should make all additional changes to your Core registration in Vergil/SSOL.
- After the petition period has concluded, sections of Literature Humanities, Contemporary Civilization, Frontiers of Science, and Art Humanities will be capped at 22 students. Sections of Music Humanities will be capped at 25 students.
Students with questions about Core petitions should refer to the Core FAQs page.
