Steven S. Stuart CC’86
Steven S. Stuart CC’86 serves as a managing director at Fortress Investment Group and is head of new business origination for the Credit and Real Estate team, which he helped start as a partner in 2002.
Stuart grew up in Great Falls, Mont., and graduated from high school at Phillips Exeter Academy. While at Columbia he was a member of the varsity lightweight crew (captain 1985–86), elected to represent Columbia College in the University Senate and was a member of the Senior Society of Nacoms.
Prior to his current roles, Stuart started a Fortress-sponsored PE firm, Garrison Investment Group, in 2007 and returned to Fortress as a partner in 2016. Prior to Fortress, Stuart worked in the real estate groups at Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs, where he started his career in 1986 working in several areas of asset-based financing and securitization including loan pool purchases from banks, insurance companies and the Resolution Trust Corp. From 2000 to 2002, Stuart was the head of the leveraged lending and real estate finance groups at Shinsei Bank, formerly known as Long Term Credit Bank of Japan.
Stuart lives in Rye, N.Y., with his wife, Katrina Froman ’88, and has three children: Clare (21), Andrew (20) and Christina (16). He is on the Board of Directors of the Answer the Call - New York Police & Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund and on the Board of Directors of The Mark Messier Foundation.
